Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Pick Six Newsletter! The only thing I wanted for Christmas this year was an extra day of football and Santa has definitely come through because we're getting a double dose of Tuesday games tonight. If there's one day of the week where the NFL almost never plays, it's definitely Tuesday. The two games tonight will mark just the fourth and fifth time that the NFL has held a Tuesday game since 1950.Since Santa came through this year, I'm definitely going to test my luck by asking for $7 million next year.As for those games, we'll be previewing both of them in today's newsletter. We'll also be recapping the Monday games, and I'll be handing out my Week 16 picks, so let's get to the rundown. As always, here's your weekly reminder to tell all your friends to sign up for the Pick Six newsletter. To get your friends to sign up, all you have to do is with them. A Pick Six subscription makes an excellent and also inexpensive holiday gift. 1. Today's show: Recapping the two Monday gamesOur Tuesday podcast was double the fun today and that's because we got to recap TWO Monday games instead of one. The ' 16-14 win over the was an unexpectedly dramatic game that wasn't decided until the final play. On the other hand, the 17-9 win over the was the opposite of exciting, unle s you like penalty flags and bad football. Here are four key things from yesterday that we touched on during the podcast: bounces back.Carr almost threw the Raiders' season away with two turnovers in the second half, but then he totally redeemed himself with a game-winning drive in the final 110 seconds. After Carr threw an interception with just under three minutes left to play, the Raiders looked to be left for dead. However, the Raiders ended up getting the ball right back after the defense came up with a huge three-and-out. Carr then took advantage of his new opportunity by throwing for 41 yards over the final 1:50 to set up game-winning field goal from 48 yards away. Carr wasn't on fire in this game (26 of 38 for 236 yards, 1 TD), but he ended up playing just well enough to win.Depleted Browns almost pull off upset.Despite having 18 players out due to COVID, including eight starters, the Browns were still able to almost pull off a miracle win. The defense kept things close by forcing two turnovers and holding the Raiders to just one touchdown, but it melted down on Vegas' final po se sion. Offensively, played as well as you can expect a third-string QB to play, and his numbers would have been even better if the Browns weren't plagued by drops, including an ugly one by on a deep pa s in the first quarter. The drops weren't the only problem for the Browns: kicker also mi sed a 47-yard field goal just before halftime that would have provided some much-needed points.Defense carries Minnesota. It's not easy to win when you don't even put up 200 yards of total offense, but the Le'Veon Bell Jersey Vikings managed to do it Monday and it was all thanks to their defense. The Vikings defense forced three turnovers, stopped the Bears on three fourth downs, sacked three times (all by ) while limiting the Bears to just three points on four trips to the red zone until a garbage-time TD on the final play. The Vikings won despite getting just 87 pa sing yards from Cousins, which was a career-low for the quarterback. The Vikings finished with just 193 total yards, making them just the fourth team this year to win a game without cracking the 200-yard mark.Bears implode. The Bears actually outgained the Vikings by nearly 200 yards (370-193), but they lost because the offense imploded anytime it got into Minnesota territory. In the first 58 minutes of this game, the Bears got into Vikings territory a total of seven times, but only came away with one score (a field goal). On the other six po se sions, the Bears had three failed fourth downs, two lost fumbles and a mi sed field goal. There were so many mistakes that it was almost painful to watch. The Bears did get a TD on the final play of the game, but Tommy Townsend Jersey by then, it didn't matter. The only redeeming factor in this game for the Bears was the play of their defense. The Bears limited the Vikings to just 193 yards, which was a big reason why this game didn't turn into a blowout despite the offense's inability to score touchdowns.Besides those four things, we also spent some serious time trying talking about the playoff picture in both the AFC and NFC. To listen to today's episode -- and to subscribe to the best daily NFL podcast out there -- . You . 2. NFL playoff picture heading into Tuesday's gamesWith only three weeks left in the regular season, the playoff picture is still a jumbled me s. So far, only ONE team has officially clinched a playoff berth and that's the . Here's what the playoff picture looks like heading into the two games being played Tuesday.AFC1. (10-4)2. (9-5)3. (9-5)4. (8-6)5. (8-6)6. (8-6)7. (8-6)Here's how devastating the Browns' lo s was on Monday: If they had won, they would be sitting where the Bengals are in the fourth spot, but since they lost, they are now sitting in the 12TH SPOT in the AFC. Although the Bengals are currently at the top of the AFC North, their stay might not last long. If the Bengals lose to the in Week 16, Baltimore will take over the top spot. The Patriots and Bills also have a huge showdown this week. A win by the Bills will put them at the top of the AFC East. NFC1.Packers (11-3)*2. (10-4)3. (10-4)4. (10-4)5. (9-4)6. (8-6)7.Vikings (7-7)There's one game tonight that could have an immediate impact on the NFC playoff standings and that's Washington-Philadelphia. If Washington wins, that means the will jump up to the seventh spot, which will bump the Vikings out. On the other hand, if the win, the Vikings will remain in the seventh spot. The crazy part about the NFC is that four of the top-seven teams will be playing before we even get Sunday. After the Rams play tonight, the 49ers will play Thursday, which will be followed by the Packers (vs. the Browns) and Cardinals (vs. the Colts) both playing on Christmas Day. 3. Tuesday preview: Prepping you for at RamsWith the Cardinals' upset lo s to the on Sunday, the NFC West is now there for the taking and the Rams can take a huge step Jerick McKinnon Jersey toward stealing the division with a win over Seattle. On the other hand, the Seahawks need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, so they're going to be desperate, which means this isn't going to be an easy game for the Rams, who are 6.5-point favorites. Jeff Kerr wrote our deep-dive preview for this game here at CBSSports.com, and here's how he sees it playing out:Why the Seahawks can win:Since their Week 11 bye, the Rams are averaging 31.7 points per game, which is bad news for the Seahawks, because if this game turns into a shootout, it's unlikely that Seattle is going to be able to keep up. What this means is that the Seahawks are going to need a huge game from their defense. If Seattle can force into making mistakes, it'll have a good chance to win. The Rams are 0-2 this year in games where Stafford throws multiple picks. Why the Rams can win:The Rams have won six of their past eight games against the Seahawks, and one reason they've been so succe sful is because they do such a good job of bottling up . In the first meeting between these two teams, Wilson played the first three quarters before getting injured and only managed to lead the Seahawks to seven points while he was on the field. Basically, the Rams defense is so familiar with Wilson's style that it rarely gives up any big plays. If they keep the big plays from happening, the Rams should be able to come away with a win.You can . You can see our picks for the game below and as you'll notice, one of us is PICKING AN UPSET. (It's not me.)Kerr's pick:Seahawks 27-24 over Rams.My pick:Rams 34-24 over Seahawks. Finally, here are all the other details you need to know about the game:Date:Tuesday, Dec. 21 |Time:7 p.m. ETLocation:SoFi Stadium (Inglewood, CA)TV:Fox|Stream:fuboTV ( )Follow:Odds:Rams -7, O/U 47 4. Tuesday preview: Prepping you for Washington at PhiladelphiaWith the Eagles and Washington deadlocked at 6-7 in the NFC East, this is a huge game for both teams. The winner of this divisional showdown will take one step closer toward a po sible wild-card berth while the loser is going to be in a giant hole heading into the final three weeks of the season. And as we all know, you never want to be in a giant hole. Cody Benjamin wrote our deep-dive preview for this game here at CBSSports.com, and here's how he sees it playing out:Why the Eagles can win: is expected to be returning tonight after an ankle injury caused him to mi s Philadelphia's last game. If Hurts is struggling with his mobility, that could be a huge factor, because that would take away a key element of Philly's rushing attack. However, if Hurts can't run so well, that might lead the Eagles to throw the ball more, which could work out in their favor considering Washington has surrendered the third-most pa sing yards in the NFL this year. If Ben Niemann Jersey Hurts is efficient and accurate with his pa sing, he should be able to do enough to help the Eagles pull out a win. Also, if Washington is down to its third-string QB, the Eagles defense might be able to make enough plays to win this game on its own.Why Washington can win:Winning this game is going to be a tall task and that's because Washington is going to be mi sing several key players. For one, the Football Team is likely going to be down to third-string QB unle s or test off the COVID list .(They have until 4 p.m. today to record a negative test.) Also, Washington is going to be mi sing two key offensive weapons ( and ) along with All-Pro guard , who was placed on the COVID list on Monday. The only good news for the Football Team is that it did get five defensive linemen back from the COVID list, which basically means it's going to need a huge game from its defense if it wants to win. You .Cody's pick:Eagles 27-15 over Washington. My pick:Eagles 22-19 over Washington. If Cody's pick is wrong, we can all laugh at him together in tomorrow's newsletter since he'll be writing it. Actually, I take that back, if he's wrong, that means I'm wrong and I'm not going to laugh at myself, so no laughing. Finally, here are all the other details you need to know about the game:Date:Tuesday, Dec. 21 |Time:7 p.m. ETTV:Fox|Stream:fuboTV ( )Time:7 p.m. ETFollow:Odds:Eagles -6.5, O/U 41.5 5. Breech's Week 16 picksIt's Tuesday, and that can only mean one thing: It's time for my weekly picks.Even though Week 15 isn't EVEN OVER YET, I still wrote my Week 16 picks because that's how things work around here. If I don't write my picks Monday night, then I get confused and if I get confused, then I'll mi s all my picks so that's why you're getting them now. Last week, I wasn't confused, which is clearly one reason why I went 10-4 against the spread. With that in mind, here are three of my picks for Week 16. Indianapolis (+1.5) at Arizona:If I were the Cardinals, I'd ask the NFL to postpone this game and not because of COVID, but because I wouldn't want to show my face in public for at least two weeks after losing to the Lions. The Colts are 8-0 this season when rushes for 100 yards or more and 0-6 when he doesn't. I'm going to say he tops the century mark and the Colts end up having a Murray Christmas, which is what it's called when you beat on Christmas Day.PICK:Colts 27-24 over Cardinals.Baltimore at Cincinnati (-2.5):In the first meeting, threw for more than 400 yards, and he did that even though the Ravens had their star cornerback, , on the field. This time around they won't have Humphrey and they could also be mi sing several other key starters, which makes it tough to imagine a situation where Baltimore is able to slow down the Bengals offense.PICK:Bengals 30-23 over Ravens.Buffalo (+2.5) at New England:When it comes to picking this game, my conundrum is that I think the Bills have Justin Reid Jersey a slightly more talented team, but I think the Patriots have slightly better coaching, so I'm not sure what to do here. The Bills offense played as poorly as po sible in the first game and Buffalo STILL almost won. This time around, I think we'll see play slightly better since there won't be any 700 mph winds and that will lead to the Bills getting revenge and winning.PICK:Bills 20-17 over Patriots. To . 6. Rapid-fire roundupIt's been a busy 24 hours in the NFL, and since it's nearly impo sible to keep track of everything that happened, I went ahead and put together a roundup for you. and among Chiefs placed on COVID list. The Chiefs could be mi sing two key players this week after Kelce and Butker both . Cornerback was also placed on the list. If the players are vaccinated, they could return for Sunday's game against the by recording one negative test.Chargers hit hard by COVID.Three-time Pro Bowler and starting center were placed on the COVID list Monday. Bosa isn't vaccinated, which means he'll definitely mi s this week's game against Houston. As for Linsley, he could return if he records a negative test. Star running back is also going on the list, but that hasn't officially happened as of this writing. done for the year.Jones has already mi sed two games due to a neck injury and now, he's going to mi s the rest of the season. The team announced that Jones won't be returning this year, which means they'll be moving forward with either or over the final three weeks. placed on COVID list. Le s than 24 hours after beating the Cardinals, Goff was placed on the COVID list, which puts his status in doubt for this week's game against the . Like other players, Goff can play this week as long as he's vaccinated AND tests negative at some point before Sunday's game. out for the year. The initial diagnosis on Godwin was a strained MCL, but as it turns out, the injury was actually much more serious. Coach Bruce Arians tore his ACL, which means the receiver won't be returning at all this year. (When his injury was thought to be a strain, the Bucs were hoping he might be able to return in the playoffs.) The injury means that Godwin, who will be a free agent in March, might have played his last down with the Buccaneers.

Today, on the biggest stage in which sports and entertainment annually meet, the Super Bowl halftime show will be no different. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, the co-headliners of this year's Super Bowl halftime show () Austin Barnes Jersey , revealed this week that there is a plan to honor the Lakers legend on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium."We'll all be remembering Kobe on Sunday and celebrating life and diversity in this country," Shakira said at a Super Bowl pre s conference on Thursday. had one of the best seasons for a defensive lineman in NFL history, culminated with winning the A sociated Pre s' Chris Stewart Jersey Defensive Player of the Year award at the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday night. Watt, an All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection, is the seventh player to earn the honor and the first since Troy Polamalu in 2010.Watt joins brother as the first pair of brothers to win Defensive Player of the Year. J.J. Watt won the award three times (2012, 2014, 2015), tied for the most in NFL history. The 2021 season was historic for Watt, as he finished with 22.5 sacks in 14 games -- tying Michael Strahan for the single-season sack record.Watt finished his 2021 season leading the league in sacks, quarterback hits (39) and fumble recoveries (three). He averaged 1. Eric Staal Jersey 5 sacks per game and finished with 12.5 sacks in the second half and overtime -- which also led the league. He's just the fifth player to lead the league in sacks, tackles for lo s, and quarterbacks hits in a season -- joining , J.J. Watt, , and . Watt's 72 career sacks in his first 77 games are the most by any linebacker in NFL history. His 0.94 sacks-per-game average is the highest in league history, as Watt and Reggie White are the only players to have 13-plus sacks in four consecutive seasons. Only Mikko Koivu Jersey White (nine), Bruce Smith (seven) and Kevin Greene (six) have more 13-plus sack seasons than Watt -- whose four 13-plus sacks in his first five seasons are tied with White for the most in NFL history. What Watt has been able to accomplish in his first five seasons has been historic, as his 150 quarterback hits over his first 77 games trail only J.J. Watt for the most in league Matt Dumba Jersey history (most ever for a linebacker). Only White has more sacks (87) over his first 77 games in league history. Watt is etching his mark as one of the best defensive players ever -- finally having the hardware to back up that claim. The 's 2023 schedules are likely to be unveiled this week, but every team's opponents for the upcoming season are already known. With that in mind, it's safe to say that a big part of the ' Minnesota Twins Jersey succe s or failure this fall will hinge on how well Todd Bowles' defense fares against young quarterbacks.Tampa Bay will play 17 games this fall, and it's reasonable to think that eight of them nearly half will be against quarterbacks with five or fewer career starts entering this season. That includes the three rookies taken in the top four picks of the 2023 NFL Draft two games against and , plus games at ( ) and ( ). Those rookies might not yet be starting when the Bucs face their teams, but Tampa Bay also has two games against and (four career starts), one against and (five career starts) and one against and (one career start). That's eight out of 17 against young, inexperienced starting quarterbacks, and it could be more. The Bucs actually face all of the first five quarterbacks picked in last month's draft, so in theory, they could see second-round pick whenever the come to Tampa, and le s likely third-round pick when they face .From a quarterback standpoint, the Bucs' 2023 season will be very different from 2022, and not just because Tom Brady has retired. Brady went up against some of the NFL's best quarterbacks last year, facing , , and . By comparison, you could argue that the Bucs will face only three top-10 NFL quarterbacks this fall, in , and perhaps .So given the relative youth of the quarterbacks they'll be facing, the larger question is this: How will the Bucs defense handle the opportunity to confuse/confound/ Fernando Rodney Jersey rattle an inexperienced pa ser? The answer has been a mixed bag in the past four years with Bowles running the Tampa Bay defense. From the middle of 2019 to the middle of 2021, this was a dream matchup for Bowles' defense, which won seven straight games against quarterbacks with 10 career starts or fewer. The Bucs beat , , , Hurts and Tony Oliva Jersey early in their careers in that stretch, giving up a total of 10 touchdowns pa ses against 10 interceptions in those seven wins. This is what you'd expect, with Bowles throwing multiple fronts and coverages and creative blitz packages against quarterbacks still learning how to read and proce s the defenses in front of them.Since then? It's not pretty. Since November 2021, with Brady at quarterback, the Bucs are 1-6 against opposing quarterbacks with 10 career starts or fewer, and that one single win needed overtime last year to beat and a team that would finish 4-13. These aren't all high Justin Morneau Jersey draft picks, with lo ses to players like Carolina's and 's . In going 1-6 in those games, the Bucs defense gave up eight touchdowns and managed one interception, that coming against McSorley. Now, you can affix an asterisk to some of these Bucs lo ses. The last one, against Ridder in Atlanta, came with the Bucs resting their starters in the second half (some more than that) because their playoff seeding was set. They lost to and last year, but more because came in as an injury replacement. The overall vibe remains intact. The Bucs' 2023 season will be largely played against younger quarterbacks. Of their 17 opponents, they're likely to have six games total against quarterbacks with 35 or more career starts entering the 2023 season: twice with , and , Allen and . Four games against rookies, four against very new starters, another against Fields, who is 5-20 as an NFL starter. It's counterintuitive, but in four years of Bowles running the Bucs defense, Tampa Bay is actually better against older, more Nelson Cruz Jersey experienced quarterbacks. Consider that 35-start line as a dividing point they're just 12-10 (55% wins) against quarterbacks with 35 career starts or fewer, and 27-17 (61% wins) against quarterbacks with 36 or more.If the Bucs are to contend for a third straight division title this fall, they'll have to find more consistent succe s against the younger quarterbacks who will be all over their schedule in 2023.Greg Auman is FOX Sports NFC South reporter, covering the Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers and Saints. TAMPA, Fla. -- This wasn't the kind of history came out of retirement to make. Before Sunday, the quarterback had been 89-0 in his career in home games where he leads by 17 points or more at any point in the game. Just three lo ses in 23 NFL seasons, period, once he had Devon Travis Jersey such a big cushion. And somehow the Bucs went from leading the 17-0 just before halftime hey, this is how they're capable of playing again to Brady committing four turnovers in a span of 10 offensive plays, helping the Bengals to ."Turnovers kill you, and they killed us today," said Brady, who committed four turnovers combined in the first 11 games of this season. "It's not the way we need to (play) in order to win, and that's certainly not how I need to play in order to win ... We literally just gave them the ball."Up 14 at the half and lose by 11 points or more? That had happened just four times to any NFL team since 1987, just under 35 years, and the Bucs pulled it off Sunday, finding a new and even more confounding way to lose.A week earlier, they trailed 28-0 at the half, losing 35-7 at the . They've lost twice to the and on mi sed two-point conversions. They lost on a one-handed fourth-down touchdown catch in the final minute to set up an overtime lo s.Despite all these lo ses eight now, the most ever for a team with Brady as starting quarterback the Bucs have the odd consolation of still being Jaime Garcia Jersey in first place in the NFC South, one game ahead of three 5-9 teams and still very much in control of their playoff destiny."All you can do is fight," coach Todd Bowles said after the game. "You can fight, you can play smarter, you can coach smarter, and we have to keep fighting. We understand that what we're doing is not good enough, by far. It's not even close to good enough, and we have three games left to save our season."The Bucs play on Christmas at Arizona, which just lost quarterback to a season-ending knee injury, and is 4-10 and has lost four in a row and six of seven. Win there and at home on New Year's Day against Carolina (which beat them 20-3 in Charlotte this season) and Tampa Bay will clinch back-to-back division titles for the first time in their history, earning a home playoff game.Probabilities aside, that seems hard to imagine, given how the Bucs played in the second half Sunday, up 17-3 and in complete control of the game.Facing a fourth-and-1 from their 26-yard line, Bowles called for a fake punt, but as the ball was snapped directly to backup running back Gio Bernard, he didn't seem to expect it, and the ball bounced off the side of his helmet and he was tackled for a turnover on downs. Even then, the Bucs defense held the Bengals to just a field goal and kept a 17-6 lead. Then a buzzsaw of four Brady turnovers in four drives, leading to three Bengals touchdowns and a 27-17 lead. Brady had a pa s intercepted by , fumbled on a sack and then fumbled on a handoff to . The Bengals only had to go 31, 13 and 39 yards for their touchdowns, this after getting the ball at the Bucs' 13 off the fake punt. If there were any chance of bouncing back for a comeback, Brady threw another interception on the next drive, for four turnovers in a span of 10 offensive plays."We're pi sed off," Bowles said of his locker room after the game. "It's the same old song. It's Bucs vs. Bucs. We play a good first half, and the second half, we come out and we shoot ourselves in the foot, either by turnovers or penalties Kendrys Morales Jersey or field position on special teams. It's a tale of two halves, and the half we played in the second half was Bucs vs. Bucs."That has been the storyline all season, a team good enough for Brady to come out of retirement for, yet unable to score anywhere nearly as consistently as his first two seasons in Tampa, getting 30 points a game. The 23 points scored by the Bucs on Sunday including six on a meaningle s touchdown pa s with 49 seconds left marked the second-highest scoring total this season, behind a 41-31 lo s to the that also included a tack-on touchdown in the final minutes. The defense continues to be unable to create takeaways with any regularity. They had one Sunday, intercepting a pa s, but that's just 13 takeaways total in 14 games in the entire NFL, only the (11) and Saints (10) have forced fewer. The Bucs have just three games left, and could even back into the playoffs as a 7-10 division champ, but it's been so rare that they've played like a first-place team, that they've played like a winning team from start to finish, that even if they got to the playoffs, there's little confidence in what the Bucs could Justin Smoak Jersey do, even with a seven-time Super Bowl champion as their quarterback."I think we have the ability to play good," Brady said. "I don't think we lack confidence in playing good. It's just consistency. Two good quarters doesn't win you any football games, and five turnovers doesn't win you football games."It's the first time in Brady's career he's had multiple interceptions and multiple lost fumbles in the same game. His ability to avoid turnovers was perhaps what he'd done best as a 45-year-old, but even that has given way with six turnovers in the last two lo ses.The Bucs are a team with a losing record, but reasonably, all they have to do is beat two teams that have losing records in the next three weeks, and they'll be a playoff team, if an underwhelming one. Tampa Bay does not have much time to turn their season around, but that remains their goal, however frustrating that pursuit continues to be for them."We have a lot of toughne s," Bowles said. "We have to deal with adversity better. We have to stop the miscues and the Bucs vs. Bucs. We understand that. We talk about it, we Aaron Sanchez Jersey preach it, we practice it, we take ownership of it, and we'll fight to stop it."Top stories from FOX Sports:Read more from the :Greg Auman is FOX Sports NFC South reporter, covering the Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers and Saints.
